JMC IT, one of ScienceLogic’s first partners located in the UK, is an IT support firm based in Salford, Greater Manchester, providing proactive IT support for both large and small companies across the UK.

No matter what size, businesses don’t need to suffer poor system performance anymore. Thanks to the cloud and some really game-changing technology, small and medium sized businesses can now access the same level of proactive IT support and monitoring that was once only accessible to much larger organizations with much bigger budgets.

How has the game changed?

JMC has implemented ScienceLogic’s capabilities in a unique ‘hub and spoke’ model. Along with the cloud, this partnership has allowed JMC to take managed service support to the next level, from ASM (Active System Monitoring) to APM (Application Performance Management).

APM is an extension of ASM, which is simply a support tool that enables monitoring the security, performance and availability of customers’ onsite and cloud-based IT infrastructures. The main difference is that APM allows for the customization of system monitoring around the elements which are most important to a customer. For example, a business that relies heavily on email should have a system monitoring solution that focuses heavily on email in order to avoid any IT-related downtime in the email system. Prior to JMC and ScienceLogic’s partnership, the only preventative option would have been for the business to invest in a costly monitoring system that provided an extra level of support to all areas of the system. Today, JMC’s innovative solution utilizing APM creates an affordable enterprise-grade service to that business by developing an APM bolt-on to their monitoring system to provide an extra level of support to the email system and all of its components.

What is application performance management?

However, APM does not mean that the rest of the system is ignored with APM; rather, there is still the continual proactive monitoring of overall performance as there was with ASM, which is able to identify and fix problems before they escalate into larger issues. However, APM takes this a step further and adds an additional layer of protection to the key system elements that a company values the most.

APM looks at what component a business views as most critical and focuses on its performance in a much more detailed approach. Alerts can be set to notify technicians when any of these elements’ performance drops below an agreed level, or access can be granted to view live monitoring data on a client’s own desktop, meaning they can securely log in to see the performance of their systems at any time. These extra layers of monitors and alerts provide peace of mind to businesses that really rely on their IT to operate.

What are the benefits?

Taking a more proactive approach to the monitoring and support of specific critical elements within a system means that problem-solving can occur up to four times faster than if it had been left to escalate into a fully ‘broken’ state. Which means, you and your business never have to deal with a slow or malfunctioning system.

Powered by ScienceLogic’s leading technology, JMC’s dedicated Managed Services team is able to proactively monitor the systems of approximately 10,000 end users in real-time 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
